RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-971

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency to determine the feasibility of and give due consideration to providing one month free rent annually for the elderly who reside in public housing.

WHEREAS, persons over 65 years of age who reside in public housing facilities owned and operated by the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency do not have the opportunity to supplement their income; and

WHEREAS, increased costs of living otherwise, even in subsidized housing, poses a hardship for these persons; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency determine the feasibility of and give due consideration to further assistance to these occupants.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency to determine the feasibility of and give due consideration to providing one month free rent annually for the elderly who reside in public housing.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Executive Director of the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency.

SECTION 3. That the Executive Director of the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency is further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility of and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 thereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
