RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-967
A resolution recognizing Mrs. Nancy Driver and the late Mr. John L. Driver for their service to the community.
WHEREAS, the leadership, commitment, and devotion that the Driver's have shown speak volumes about their desire to improve the quality of life for the area's residents; and
WHEREAS, not only did Mr. Driver have a dual career as a businessman and a manager of the State Department of Conservation, but represented the 21st District, of the Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson City Council for 12 years and was a charter member; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Driver believed in devoting his goals to progressive projects that would benefit his community, his district, and the City of Nashville, and he was instrumental in the implementation of co-sponsoring many successful bills dealing with equal opportunity, social justice and economic empowerment, helped established Hadley Park Towers, as a senior citizens residence, and was instrumental in getting lighting to make it possible for nighttime tennis games at Hadley Park Tennis Courts; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Driver was a long time member and an active supporter of Lee Chapel AME Church along with his wife where she still remains active today; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Driver, used her vision, skills, and energy in teaching school for more than forty years in both the Houston County school system and the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, in addition to teaching adult general education classes; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Driver was born in McEwen, Tennessee and will be celebrating her birthday on May 16th with family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Duncan (Driver) and the late John L. Driver, a former Metropolitan City Councilman and businessman were happily married for nearly fifty years; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize such public servants like Mrs. Nancy Driver, and the late Mr. John L. Driver for their outstanding contributions in Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mrs. Nancy Driver and the late Mr. John L. Driver for their service to the community.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mrs. Nancy Driver.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
