RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-965

A resolution recognizing Mr. Clinton McCord Jr., upon his retirement.

WHEREAS, after thirty years of volunteer service, Mr. Clinton McCord, Jr., will be retiring as treasurer of First Baptist Church in east Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McCord, Jr., began his career as the treasurer of First Baptist Church on Main Street in east Nashville in 1972, using two adding machines and a ledger to balance the church's books; and

WHEREAS, not only did Mr. McCord, Jr., keep the books, count the money and pay the bills each Sunday, but was a former African-American League baseball player and a retired postal worker; and

WHEREAS, the talents and skills that Mr. McCord, Jr., has exhibited throughout his years' as treasurer will be deeply missed, but the love, kindness and generosity shown to family, friends, and members of the church will continue to enrich their lives; and

WHEREAS, a devoted member of First Baptist Church, Mr. McCord, Jr., is a man of faith and integrity whose immeasurable contributions to his church are truly admirable; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mr. Clinton McCord, Jr., for his thirty years of service to his parishioners and wish him much happiness.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Clinton McCord, Jr., upon his retirement.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Clinton McCord.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
