RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-962

A resolution recognizing Mr. Nicholas Allen on his "I, Too, Have A Dream" - Martin Luther King, Jr., essay.

WHEREAS, Mr. Nicholas Allen, 6th grader at East Literature Magnet School received the Grand Prize for best essay in grades 5-12 in this years Nashville Symphony's "I, Too, Have A Dream" - Martin Luther King, Jr., essay contest; and

WHEREAS, each year in conjunction with the annual celebration concert honoring Dr. King's legacy, students at East Literature Magnet School are encouraged to write an essay; and

WHERAS, Mr. Allen is keeping Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's dream alive through his essay on his life and teachings; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Allen's, essay was chosen from over 450 entries from 13 counties in Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Allen was afforded the opportunity to read his essay during the Nashville Symphony's "Oh Freedom" concert at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center on January 19, 2002; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the talents of Mr. Nicholas Allen on his award winning essay and wish him best of luck in the future.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Nicholas Allen on his "I, Too, Have A Dream" - Martin Luther King, Jr., essay.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Nicholas Allen.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
