RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-946

A resolution requesting the Mayor, the Nashville Visitors and Convention Bureau, and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce to develop and install appropriate maps providing information and directions to tourist and visitor destinations in the City of Nashville.

WHEREAS, Nashville has established itself as a world-class tourist destination; and

WHEREAS, Nashville is the home of numerous conventions and events throughout the year; and

WHEREAS, Nashville is a wonderful city for people to visit, and

WHEREAS, Nashville enjoys the tourism business because it is good for the city and good for the City's businesses; and

WHEREAS, the City should continue to look for new ways to help tourists when they visit our City.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan Council goes on record as requesting the Mayor, the Nashville Visitors and Convention Bureau, and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce to work together to design, locate, and install maps of the City of Nashville at appropriate and safe areas outside the city, along the major interstates, and at the airport so that visitors may exit the interstate or start their journey from the airport with an idea of where they are, where they are headed, and where they may want to visit in our city. Such maps should include information that may be helpful to visitors, including, but not limited to, the location of the city's Welcome Center located in the Gaylord Entertainment Center.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell and to the directors of the Nashville Visitors and Convention Bureau and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.

SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

AMENDMENT NO. 1

TO

RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-946

Mr. President:
I move to amend Resolution No. RS2002-946 by:

1. Deleting the word "and" wherein it appears in the caption in the phrase "to develop and install appropriate maps", and substituting the phrase "a plan to".

2. Inserting after the phrase "to work together to", and before the phrase "design, locate, and install maps", wherein they appear in Section 1, the phrase "develop a plan to".

3. Inserting after the phrase "located in the Gaylord Entertainment Center" wherein it appears in Section 1, the phrase "and should be funded by the Hotel Occupancy Privilege Tax".
