RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-945


A resolution welcoming the Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament.

WHEREAS, on February 28 through March 3, 2002, the Gaylord Entertainment Center will be the host site of the Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament; and

WHEREAS, last year the Gaylord Entertainment Center was the site for the Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament; and

WHEREAS, the original purpose for construction of the Gaylord Entertainment Center was to host such premier amateur athletic events; and

WHEREAS, women's basketball is a premier sport in Nashville and the State of Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Sports Council has worked tirelessly to promote the hosting of this event; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council welcome the teams and participants of this event and encourage persons to take advantage of this opportunity to see outstanding basketball as played by the women of the Southeastern Conference.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as welcoming the Southeastsern Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament and encouraging all to attend.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Nashville Sports Council.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
