RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-936

A Resolution requesting the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission to examine the feasibility of permitting parking within the Central Business Improvement District between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. in some spaces where parking is now prohibited.

WHEREAS, businesses and organizations in the Central Business Improvement District offer sporting events, entertainment venues, restaurants, and various other tourist-related activities during the evening hours after 6:00 p.m.; and

WHEREAS, the entertainment and tourism industry is a critical element to the economic vitality of Nashville; and

WHEREAS, providing increased free parking facilities will enhance and encourage business opportunities and patronization of businesses in the Central Business Improvement District.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission to examine the feasibility of permitting parking within the Central Business Improvement District between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. in some spaces where parking is now prohibited.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this resolution to the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission.

SECTION 3. That the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission is requested to inform the Metropolitan Council of the feasibility of compliance with the request in Section 1 thereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
