RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-932

A resolution proclaiming the week of February 4, 2002, through February 8, 2002, as National School Counseling Week.

WHEREAS, National School Counseling Week, focuses public attention on the unique contributions of professional school counselors for school systems within the United States; and

WHEREAS, this week highlights the tremendous impact that counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career; and

WHEREAS, school counselors are employed in public and private schools to help students reach their fullest potential; and

WHEREAS, school counselors are actively committed to helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents as these traits relate to career awareness and development; and

WHEREAS, school counselors help parents focus on ways to further the educational, personal and social growth of their children; and

WHEREAS, school counselors work with teachers and other educators to help students develop their talents and set realistic goals for themselves; and

WHEREAS, school counselors seek to identify and utilize community resources that can enhance and complement comprehensive school counseling programs and help students become viable productive members of society; and

WHEREAS, comprehensive developmental school counseling programs are considered an integral part of the educational process that enables all students to achieve success in school; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council proclaim the week of February 4th, 2002, through February 8th, 2002, as National School Counseling Week and celebrate that counseling does, indeed, make a difference in the lives of children.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming the week of February 4th, 2002, through February 8th, 2002, as National School Counseling Week.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to representatives of the Tennessee and Middle Tennessee School Counselor Associations.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
