RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-914

A resolution recognizing Amy Grant and Aubrey B. Harwell, Jr., on being named Nashvillian of the Year for 2001.

WHEREAS, Amy Grant and Aubrey B. Harwell, Jr., have both been named Nashvillian of the Year for 2001; for their outstanding service for the betterment of Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Amy Grant, an internationally known recording artist and performer, is a participant in Nashville's Leadership Music Program, working closely with terminally ill children through the Make a Wish Foundation, has raised awareness for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and the Nashville Symphony; and

WHEREAS, Aubrey B. Harwell, Jr., managing partner of Neal & Harwell, a prominent law firm, has served on the boards of trust of Meharry Medical College, the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Boy Scouts of America, Vanderbilt University Children's Hospital, Tennessee Performing Arts Center, and Easter Seals of Tennessee, and

WHEREAS, both Amy Grant and Aubrey B. Harwell, Jr., are dedicated citizens giving their time for the good of Nashville, and

WHEREAS, the Nashvillian of the Year Award will be presented to both recipients on January 31, 2002, during a celebration at the Opryland Hotel, with proceeds benefiting the Easter Seals of Tennessee, and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor Amy Grant and Aubrey B. Harwell, Jr., on being named Nashvillian of the Year for 2001.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring Amy Grant and Aubrey B. Harwell, Jr., on being named Nashvillian of the Year for 2001.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Amy Grant and Aubrey B. Harwell, Jr.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
