RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-911

A resolution honoring Gerald Nicely upon his retirement from service with the Metropolitan Government.

WHEREAS, effective Friday, March 29, 2002, Gerald Nicely will retire as Executive Director from the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) after twenty-two years of dedicated, competent and efficient service; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nicely has dedicated his career with the Metropolitan Government, including his services as a Staff Economist with the Planning Commission, as Mayor Phil Bredesen's Chief of Staff, and as Executive Director of MDHA, to helping to revitalize Downtown Nashville and to improve the city's public housing developments; and

WHEREAS, under Mr. Nicely's leadership, MDHA has overseen the construction, redevelopment and/or revitalization of many city landmarks, including Adelphia Coliseum, the new Downtown Library, Gaylord Entertainment Center, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Nashville Convention Center, the Ryman Auditorium, and the BellSouth Tower; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nicely's agency also administered the city's public housing developments and, since 1998, his administration is credited with obtaining nearly $50 million in competitive federal dollars to replace some of the city's public housing developments; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Nicely has enhanced the quality of life for the Nashville and Davidson County community through his professionalism, his commitment, and his dedication to identifying and meeting the needs of those who use the services of the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and honor Mr. Nicely for his service to the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring Gerald Nicely upon his retirement from service with the Metropolitan Government.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to Gerald Nicely.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
