RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-894
A resolution memorializing the life of Nashville Police Officer Candace Ripp.
WHEREAS, on the morning of December 8, 2001, while working a one-car accident
Nashville, Police Officer Candace Ripp was killed in the line of duty when she
was struck by an out of control Sport Utility Vehicle; and
WHEREAS, Officer Candace Ripp was the first female officer in Nashville history to have been killed in service to the city; and
WHEREAS, Officer Ripp departed this life at the age of thirty-six, leaving behind a loving family, including her parents, a daughter, a granddaughter, three siblings, and many friends; and
WHEREAS, graduating from the Nashville Police Academy through hard work, dedication and determination, Officer Ripp attained her dream of becoming a Nashville police officer; and
WHEREAS, for nearly ten years, Officer Ripp unselfishly, loyally and steadfastly served the citizens of Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County, having last been assigned to the East Patrol Sector; and
WHEREAS, Officer Ripp loved her job and her community, and joyfully took on the responsibility to make Nashville a better place; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure with the police department, Officer Ripp received the Exemplary Service Award and the Department Commendation Award; and
WHEREAS, on December 10, 2001, Officer Candace Ripp was presented with the Medal of Valor, the Metropolitan Police Department's highest honor; and
WHEREAS, due to the death of Officer Ripp, the people of Nashville have lost an outstanding citizen and a devoted public servant; and
WHEREAS, Officer Ripp will be sorely missed by her family, many friends and co-workers; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council extends its deepest and heartfelt sympathy to the members of Officer Ripp's family, friends and fellow officers upon her untimely passing.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as memorializing the life of Nashville Police Officer Candace Ripp.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of Police Officer Candace Ripp.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
