RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-1284


A resolution requesting the Mayor, the Mayor’s Office of Special Events, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Metropolitan Tourism Commission, the Nashville Downtown Partnership, The DISTRICT, the Central Business Improvement District, and the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development to determine the feasibility of having a downtown Nashville New Year’s Eve celebration on an annual basis.

WHEREAS, many major Metropolitan areas which are tourist destination sites, as is Nashville, have large New Year’s Eve celebrations in their downtown areas; and

WHEREAS, it may be beneficial to the economy of Nashville to have such a celebration on an annual basis.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor, the Mayor’s Office of Special Events, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Metropolitan Tourism Commission, the Nashville Downtown Partnership, The DISTRICT, the Central Business Improvement District, and the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development to determine the feasibility of having a downtown Nashville New Year’s Eve celebration on an annual basis.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor, the director of the Mayor’s Office of Special Events, the executive director of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, the members of the Metro Tourism Commission, the members of the Nashville Downtown Partnership, the members of The DISTRICT, to the director of the Central Business Improvement District, and to the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development.

SECTION 3. That the Mayor, the director of the Mayor’s Office of Special Events, the executive director of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, the members of the Metro Tourism Commission, the director of the Central Business Improvement District, and the director of the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development are further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 thereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
