RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-1282

A resolution requesting the Mayor and the Nashville Sports Authority to consider the feasibility of constructing a retracting roof or other means to enclose the Nashville Coliseum and to add additional seating.

WHEREAS, Nashville potentially could qualify to host the National Football League Super Bowl if the Nashville Coliseum was an enclosed facility; and

WHEREAS, economic benefits to a community hosting the Super Bowl would greatly enhance Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Nashville, as a premier tourist destination, would have an additional event that would attract thousands of visitors to benefit the local hospitality industry; and

WHEREAS, an enclosed structure would remove weather concerns for such an event and would also enhance the facility as a site for the Music City Bowl.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor and the Nashville Sports Authority to consider the feasibility of constructing a retracting roof or other means to enclose the Nashville Coliseum and to add additional seating.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor and to the members of the Nashville Sports Authority.

SECTION 3. That the Mayor and the Nashville Sports Authority are further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 thereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
