RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-1227


A resolution recognizing Davidson Academy on winning Blue Ribbon honors from the United States Department of Education.


WHERAS, Davidson Academy was chosen as a 2001-2002 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence; and

WHEREAS, Davidson Academy was one of 27 private schools and 172 total schools selected in the nation to be recognized in receiving this outstanding Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, Davidson Academy was the only school in Tennessee public or private to be so honored for this special award; and

WHEREAS, Blue Ribbon status is awarded to a school that exhibits the following qualities: strong leadership; a clear vision and a sense of mission that is shared by all connected with the school; high quality teaching; challenging up-to-date curriculum; polices and practices that ensure a safe environment conducive to learning; solid evidence of family involvement; evidence that the school helps all students achieve high standards; and a commitment to share best practices with other schools; and

WHEREAS, during the month of October Dr. Bill Chaney, Headmaster and representatives from Davidson Academy went to Washington D.C. to receive the award from the United States Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, Davidson Academy strives to teach students the skills they will need to lead successful lives as citizens of the 21st century, and its receipt of this award is fitting testimony to its proven record of achievement; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Davidson Academy for receiving this distinguished award and commends them on their unwavering commitment to promoting excellence in education.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as Davidson Academy on winning Blue Ribbon honors from the United States Department of Education.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Dr. Bill Chaney, Headmaster on behalf of the faculty, staff and students of Davidson Academy.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
