RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-1226

A resolution recognizing the 2002 Davidson Academy “Lady Bears” Girls Class A-AA Golf Team.

WHEREAS, the TSSAA State Tournament was held October 1-2, 2002, at the Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, were the Davidson Academy “Lady Bears” Girls Golf Team reclaimed the state Class A-AA title in resounding fashion; and

WHEREAS, the Davidson Academy “Lady Bears”, placed first in both the district and regional tournaments to qualify them for their seventh State championship appearance; and

WHEREAS, the Davidson Academy “Lady Bears” won their seventh State title which tied them with the Girls Preparatory School and Baylor School for the most Tennessee State titles ever; and

WHEREAS, members of this remarkable and talented team are Jamey Dillard, Ginna Beazley, Lauren Oeser and Ashley Miller; and

WHEREAS, the team is led by third year Coach Kevin Maggard, whom should be commended for doing an exceptional job in bringing the winning tradition back to Davidson Academy; and

WHEREAS, junior Jamey Dillard, playing in her fourth state tournament, finished an impressive third overall in the individual standings with a two-day score of 146 (73-73), which tied her for the tenth best score in the State Tournament history; and

WHEREAS, junior Ginna Beazley, playing in her third state tournament, did a commendable job by finishing ninth overall in the individual standings with a two-day score of 156 (75-81); and

WHEREAS, junior Lauren Oeser, playing in her second state tournament, did a commendable job by finishing eighth overall in the individual standings with a two-day score of 153 (78-75); and

WHEREAS, senior Ashley Miller, as a first year team member, did a commendable job in assisting the team to go undefeated in the regular season; and

WHEREAS, by their performance the players and coach have once again brought recognition to Davidson Academy and the city of Nashville, not only by showing their athletic abilities, but for their team play, their sportsmanship and dedication to the game; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Davidson Academy Girls Golf Team on winning the TSSAA Class A-AA State Golf championship.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 2002 Davidson Academy “Lady Bears” Girls Class A-AA Golf Team.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Coach Kevin Maggard and members of the team Jamey Dillard, Ginna Beazley, Lauren Oeser and Ashley Miller.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
