RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-1223


A resolution recognizing November 14, 2002, as Philanthropy Day in Nashville.


WHEREAS, each year the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) designates one day in November as National Philanthropy Day to recognize thousands of generous people who donate their time, talent and financial resources to worthy causes all over the community; and

WHEREAS, in grateful recognition of all those who conduct and support the work of our Nation’s charitable organizations the City of Nashville will recognize November 14, 2002, as “National Philanthropy Day”; and

WHEREAS, on November 14, 2002, the City of Nashville will take this opportunity to recognize philanthropic accomplishments and to remind us all that the spirit of giving is very much alive in the community; and

WHEREAS, from generous donors, to hard working volunteers to the international non-profit to the community center in the local neighborhood, each makes an indelible contribution to our communities, our nation, and our world; and

WHEREAS, in Davidson County human service non-profit organizations employ over 10,000 individuals; and

WHEREAS, these organizations collectively serve every citizen in the Nashville MSA through their hard work and dedication in improving the quality of life for everyone in the Nashville community.

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes National Philanthropy Day and encourage the people of Nashville to observe this day with appropriate programs and activities.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record recognizing November 14, 2002, as Philanthropy Day in Nashville.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Cheryl Davis, President of the Nashville Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
