RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-1201

A resolution requesting the Director of Finance and the Davidson County Circuit Court Clerk to advise the Metropolitan Council on the feasibility of an amnesty program for unpaid parking tickets.

WHEREAS, attempts to collect unpaid parking tickets, especially those that are aged, may not provide sufficient revenue to cover the cost of enforcement and collection; and

WHEREAS, other municipalities, including Washington, DC, are utilizing amnesty programs for unpaid parking tickets that are either over five years old or six months old; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that a study be undertaken to determine the cost and feasibility of declaring a similar amnesty program that will enable enforcement and expedient collection of new parking tickets before they become aged and essentially uncollectable.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Director of Finance and the Davidson County Circuit Court Clerk to advise the Metropolitan Council on the feasibility of an amnesty program for unpaid parking tickets.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Director of Finance and the Davidson County Circuit Court Clerk.

SECTION 3. That the Director of Finance and the Circuit Court Clerk are further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 thereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
