RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-1122


A resolution recognizing the week beginning September 15, 2002, as ‘National Civic Participation Week.’


Whereas, the U.S. Senate has designated the week beginning September 15, 2002, as ‘National Civic Participation Week’; and,

Whereas, representative government is dependent upon the civic participation of its citizens, including the exercise of privileges, responsibilities and rights therein; and,

Whereas, it is in the public interest for local leaders to support national government in its effort to foster civic discourse, education, and participation in government affairs; and,

Whereas, the organization Hands On Nashville has taken local leadership of promoting ‘National Civic Participation Week’ by organizing a series of public forums to foster dialogue about civic participation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the week beginning September 15, 2002, as ‘National Civic Participation Week.’

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the organization Hands On Nashville as a local leader in programs that commemorate ‘National Civic Participation Week.’

SECTION 3. That the Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the organization Hands On Nashville.

SECTION 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
