RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-1039
A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Employee Benefit Board to submit legislation that would prohibit the inclusion of off-duty pay in pension calculations for police officers.
WHEREAS, many employees
of the Metropolitan Government work second jobs in the community to support
their families and provide economic benefits for themselves and the community;
and
WHEREAS, police officers, through second jobs, work off-duty yet are entitled to include such income in their pension benefit calculations; and
WHEREAS, it is inappropriate to treat police officers differently and give them advantages over other Metro Government employees in calculating such benefits.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Employee Benefit Board to submit legislation that would prohibit the inclusion of off-duty pay in pension calculations for police officers.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the members of the Metropolitan Employee Benefit Board.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
