RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-1024

A resolution recognizing Dr. Tracy Libros on her retirement from service with the Metropolitan Public School System.

WHEREAS, Dr. Tracy Libros, educator and consultant, retired from the Metropolitan Public School System after faithfully serving in various capacities; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Libros began her educational career in the late 60's teaching at the elementary school level, then moving to the college level as a professor of education throughout the northern United States; and

WHEREAS, after moving to Nashville, Dr. Libros became active in the schools and was a member of the Eakin PTA where she demonstrated an understanding of the needs of a diverse student population, and later served on the Excellence and Equity Committee for the school system, assisting in the development of recommendations for creating a unitary school system which allowed the system to move from a mandatory system to a voluntary system of desegregation; and

WHEREAS, some of her major accomplishments include leading the district through unprecedented re-organization as the School Improvement Plan (SIP), implementing changes in increasing the accuracy and reliability of student data, thereby, creating a smoother opening of schools, in addition to addressing the concerns of impoverished and other high-needs children as well as numerous other achievements in her career; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Libros is to be commended for her timeless and tireless efforts for the improvement of educational opportunities; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Dr. Tracy Libros for her dedication to Metro Schools and her accomplishments during her years of service to education.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Dr. Tracy Libros on her retirement from service with the Metropolitan Public School System.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Dr. Tracy Libros.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
