RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-853

A resolution appropriating $100,000 in Urban Development Action Grant (UDAG) repayments to the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency for development of a Comprehensive Brownfields Program.

WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. O90-1112, the Metropolitan Council allocated a portion of payments received in connection with the Capitol Mall Urban Development Action Grant (UDAG) to economic development activities in Nashville's Pocket of Poverty; and

WHEREAS, numerous brownfields sites, posing a hindrance to economic development are located within Nashville's Pocket of Poverty; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency has hired a consultant to aid in the development of a comprehensive brownfields program; and

WHEREAS, the objectives of the comprehensive brownfields program will be to identify, assess and redevelop abandoned, idled or under-utilized commercial or industrial sites where growth or development is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination; and

WHEREAS, the consultant will aid in the preparation of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfields Assessment Demonstration Pilot grant application on behalf of the City.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That $100,000 in Urban Development Action Grant repayments be allocated to the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency to be used for economic development activities related to the establishment of a comprehensive brownfields program.

Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its enactment, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
