RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-843

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education and the Metropolitan Planning Commission to advise the Metro Council on the feasibility and appropriateness of imposing impact fees on new development to support funding for public education.

WHEREAS, increased development, especially by residential dwellings, requires an increase in public schools, classrooms and buildings; and

WHEREAS, it may be fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Government impose an impact fee on the homes of such residents to offset the cost of providing additional school classrooms and buildings; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the Metro Board of Public Education and the Metro Planning Commission advise the Metro Council of the feasibility of imposing such an impact fee, including but not limited to, the expected amount of revenue which could be generated and the number of public school buildings that could be constructed by such fees.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education and the Metropolitan Planning Commission on the feasibility and appropriateness of imposing impact fees on new development to support funding for public education.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Director of Schools, to members of the Metro Board of Public Education, and to the members of the Metro Planning Commission.

SECTION 3. That the Director of Schools, the members of the Board of Education, and the members of the Planning Commission are further requested to inform the Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 hereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.
