RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-842

A resolution requesting the Department of Public Works and the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority to place signs in appropriate locations recognizing Nashville as a Sister City.

WHEREAS, Sister Cities of Nashville is a non-profit organization that started about 10 years ago and promotes cultural exchange between Nashville and other cities; and

WHEREAS, Nashville currently has ties to three sister cities: Caen, France, Belfast, North Ireland, and Edmonton, Canada; and

WHEREAS, establishing a sister city depends on the interest of private citizens and officials in both cities to guarantee an active cultural exchange; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Department of Public Works and the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority to place Sister City signs signifying our relationship with the sister cities.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on requesting the Department of Public Works and the Airport Authority to place signs in appropriate locations recognizing Nashville as a Sister City.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is requested to send a certified copy of the Resolution to the Mayor, Director of Public Works and the President of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
