RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-837

A resolution proclaiming November as Adoption Month in Nashville, Tennessee.

WHEREAS, Adoption Month is dedicated to increasing the awareness of the importance of adoption by finding a safe, loving, and permanent placement for children currently in foster homes and group homes; and

WHEREAS, this month, States, communities, public and private organizations, businesses, families, and individuals will celebrate adoption as a positive way to build a family; and

WHEREAS, there is approximately 800 children who currently are in the guardianship of the State of Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, local adoption agencies are committed to working closely with families to ensure the adoptive child is shown the love they need and deserve, support, give them a sense of belonging and hope for a brighter future, and an upbringing in a happy and healthy home; and

WHEREAS, this month, throughout Davidson County, activities, programs and observances will be held to spotlight the needs of children who need permanent homes; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize November 2001, as Adoption Month and commend all local agencies in Davidson County on their efforts to find permanent and stable homes for every child awaiting one.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming November as Adoption Month in Nashville, Tennessee.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution on behalf of Adoption Month.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
