RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-808

A resolution recognizing Cynthia Williams on winning the "Torch Bearer Award".

WHEREAS, on Monday, October 15, 2001, Cynthia Williams, anchorwoman at WSMV-TV Channel 4, was presented the "Torch Bearer Award" for her contributions and volunteer efforts in the community; and

WHEREAS, the "Torch Bearer Award" was presented to her from the American Business Women's Association, Nashville Area Council; and

WHEREAS, the prestigious "Torch Bearer Award" is presented to "pioneers who have lit the way for others"; and

WHEREAS, not only is Cynthia Williams, the author of several children's books and volunteers with Book 'Em, a local organization aimed at increasing literacy, but devotes her time at local schools throughout Davidson County speaking on her career as an anchorwoman; and

WHEREAS, in addition to lending her management talent to local educational, civic, and service organizations, Cynthia Williams has devoted countless hours interacting with and serving as a positive role model for young people; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Cynthia Williams on winning the "Torch Bearer Award" and for her tireless community service.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record recognizing Cynthia Williams on winning the "Torch Bearer Award".

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Cynthia Williams.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
