RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-806

A resolution recognizing the participants in the 18th annual International Lineman's Rodeo.

WHEREAS, approximately 227 utility teams from around the world participated in the 18th Annual International Lineman's Rodeo that took place September 6-8, 2001, in Kansas City, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, Nashville Electric Linemen Stan Eden, Mike Settlemire, Don Hunter and Matthew Felts from the Donelson Service Center, along with Dawson Motsinger, Nick Williams, Michael Hinton, Brad Sanford, and Larry Jackson of the West Service Center represented Nashville Electric Service at this years International Lineman's Rodeo; and

WHEREAS, the International Lineman's Rodeo began in 1984, attracting the best journeyman and apprentice linemen from around the world to compete, develop inter-company relationships, improve teamwork and demonstrate their craft, enhance skills and techniques based on traditional lineman tasks; and

WHEREAS, the International Lineman's Rodeo is a chance for recognition to those who scale heights to build and maintain electric power lines to maintain the city's electrical system; and

WHEREAS, the competitions consist of six timed events, each year three are standard: a 40 foot pole climb in which participants must hold a raw egg in their mouths, a "double dead end hot tap," and a hurt-man rescue in addition to three mystery events that are scheduled, but not known until just before the rodeo begins; and

WHEREAS, competing in the Municipal Division out of 52 teams entered, the members of the Donelson Service Center placed 11th and the West Service Center team placed 15th, which for the overall competition that included 227 teams the Donelson Service Center team placed 62nd and the West Service Center team placed 80th; and

WHEREAS, the West Service Center journeyman team of Dawson Motsinger, Michael Hinton, and Nicolas Williams, took 3rd place in the speed pole climb with a combined average time of 22:58 seconds; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and commend each participant who represented Nashville in the 18th Annual International Lineman's Rodeo.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the participants in the 18th Annual International Lineman's Rodeo.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Nashville Electric Service linemen Stan Eden, Mike Settlemire, Don Hunter, Matthew Felts, Dawson Motsinger, Nick Williams, Michael Hinton, Brad Sanford, and Larry Jackson.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
