RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-803

A resolution recognizing the 2001 Donelson Civitan 14 & Under Slow Pitch Travel Team.

WHEREAS, this superlative team has completed another ultra successful season of softball competition by posting an impressive record of 21 wins and 7 losses; and

WHEREAS, throughout the 2001 season the Donelson Civitan 14 & Under Slow Pitch Travel Team played in the following tournaments, the NGSL Pepsi World Qualifier - 2nd place; Manchester Girls Invitational - 1st place; Sundrop Classic in Lynchburg - 2nd place; Smyrna National Invitational - 3rd place; and the Smokey Baker N.I.T. in Cincinnatti, Ohio - 1st place; and

WHEREAS, these girls marched through their opponents this season, advancing to the USSSA Tennessee State Tournament, as a fitting finale to their remarkable 2001 season; and

WHEREAS, the USSSA Tennessee State Tournament was held on July 15, 2001, where the 2001 Donelson Civitan 14 & Under Travel Team defeated Team Nashville by a score of 12 to 1 to capture the Tennessee USSSA 14 & Under Girls State Championship for the sixth consecutive year; and

WHEREAS, the Donelson Civitan 14 & Under Slow Pitch Travel Team was led by Head Coach Tony Alexander and Assistant Coaches, Traci Brown, Kent Price and Steve Shelton; and

WHEREAS, members of the talented team are Alecia Alexander, Tabitha Alexander, Katie Bornick, Chelsea Bradley, Kayla Brown, Sarah Cochran, Cari Cothern, Chasity Cox, Lauren LaBeff, Catherine Lawrence, Dani McDonald, Courtney Moss, Stefanie Price, Stephanie Shelton, Charity Sephens and Courtney Tucker; and

WHEREAS, not only did these young ladies win a six consecutive state championship but several went on to receive post tournament honors; and

WHEREAS, this magnificent team performed with precision during the season and earned its well deserved reputation for high standards of athletic achievement, the quality of its play, and the stiff competition which it presented to its opponents; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the 2001 Donelson Civitan 14 & Under Slow Pitch Travel Team for their outstanding season.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 2001 Donelson Civitan 14 & Under Slow Pitch Travel Team.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to each member of the team and their coaches.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
