A resolution recognizing JoAnn McLendon North as the first female to be elected to an At-Large Seat on the Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County Council.

WHEREAS, JoAnn North was the first female to be elected to an At-Large Seat on the Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County Council in 1979, serving three consecutive terms; and

WHEREAS, today Mrs. North still remains a viable force in the affairs of this city as Metropolitan Assessor of Property which she was appointed in 1992 by the Metropolitan Council and subsequently elected three times; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. North has served as a member of the Democratic National Platform, Draft and Rules Committees, International Association of Assessing Officers in addition to the regional and state affiliates; and

WHEREAS, some of her accomplishments include serving on several boards, some of which are the Tennessee State University Foundation, Tennessee Federation of Davidson County Democratic Women, the National and Nashville Women's Political Caucus; and the Madison Chamber of Commerce, Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce, President of the Madison Kiwanis Club and Board Chair for the Madison Children's Home and Domestic Violence Shelter; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. North has demonstrated overtime to remain in touch with her constituents finger on the pulse of the community; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. North is as committed to her career as to her family as a loving and beloved wife, mother and grandmother; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and salutes the accomplishments, achievements and outstanding leadership qualities of JoAnn North to her community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing JoAnn McLendon North on her many accomplishments.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a printed scroll to be presented to JoAnn McLendon North.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
