RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-800

A resolution recognizing Alvin Wade, Jr. on being named President of Top Teens of America.

WHEREAS, Alvin Wade Jr., was elected as National President of Top Teens of America at the 32nd National Conference in Houston, Texas; and

WHEREAS, Top Teens was founded in 1968 as a youth organization, dedicated to community service and leadership development; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure as president, he will preside over more than 5,000 teens at all National, Executive, Area and Cluster meetings, representing chapters throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, not only is Mr. Wade Vice-President of the Southeast Region (Area IV) Top Teens, but President of the Nashville Chapter; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wade is a junior at Hume-Fogg Academic High School, where he is a member of the Student Government and Student Court, as well as a Homecoming Attendant and a member of the Varsity Basketball Team; and

WHEREAS, some of his specific honors include, 1st place Oratorical in Forensics; 1994-98 consecutively Basketball Coaches' awards; Citizens Civitan Award as "Citizen of the Year"; best all-round Camper award; and most valuable athlete in Track & Field; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wade is a member of Nu Alpha Theta Math Organization and Student Christian Union and involved in the entrepreneurial training program "YOUTH ABOUT BUSINESS", as well as 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Alvin Wade, Jr. for his extraordinary achievements.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record recognizing Alvin Wade, Jr. on being named President of Top Teens of America.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Alvin Wade, Jr.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
