A resolution recognizing Dr. Steve B. Gordon on being elected as the 2002 National Institute of Governmental Purchasing President.

WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen B. Gordon, was elected by the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) Board to serve as President beginning his term on January 1, 2002; and

WHEREAS, the NIGP is a not-for-profit international association founded in 1944, that serves the public procurement profession by providing education, research, technical assistance and networking opportunities in public purchasing; while promoting excellence, enhancing effectiveness, and increasing public trust; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Gordon began his professional career with the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing in 1976 as a staff member serving a variety of progressive positions leading to the Director of Professional Development and Research in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Gordon has served the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee as its Purchasing Agent since 1992, whose responsibilities are for the procurement of goods, services, and construction for departments and offices of the general government as well as the competitive purchasing and contracting of goods and services required by the school system; and

WHEREAS, throughout his business career, Dr. Gordon always made time for his community by serving as the Director and Immediate Past Board President of the Rochelle Center, a nonprofit organization serving adults with disabilities and their caregivers, a former President of the Tennessee Association of Public Purchasing, and a former President of the Tennessee Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Dr. Steve B. Gordon and congratulate him on this achievement and continued success in the future.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Dr. Steve B. Gordon on being elected as the 2002 National Institute of Governmental Purchasing President.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Dr. Steve Gordon.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
