A resolution appropriating to the Metropolitan Board of Public Education an amount not to exceed four million, four hundred seventy-nine thousand, nine hundred and eighty-four dollars ($4,479,984) of additional revenue provided to the school district by the state of Tennessee.

Whereas, the Metropolitan Board of Public Education presented a 2001-2002 General Operational Fund Budget to the Mayor and to the Metropolitan Council that was based, in part, on an April 2001 BEP estimate provided by the State of Tennessee's Department of Education that did not include the additional revenue from the state-mandated salary increase for teachers and the new BEP component for funding English Language Learning; and

Whereas, on June 26, 2001, the Metropolitan Council approved a 2001-2002 General Operational Budget totaling $443,130,436 for the school district based upon then-known revenues; and

Whereas, the state BEP appropriation to the Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County School District has been increased by $4,479,984; and

Whereas, on August 28, 2001, the Metropolitan Board of Public Education passed a resolution requesting that the Mayor and the Metropolitan Council amend the 2001-2002 General Operational Budget from a total of $443,130,436 to $447,610,420 to reflect the $4,479,984 increased revenue that the school district will receive as a result of the budget actions of the Tennessee General Assembly.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1: There is hereby appropriated four million, four hundred seventy-nine thousand, nine hundred and eighty-four dollars ($4,479,984) to the Metropolitan Board of Public Education, which amount is in addition to the amount appropriated in the current operating budget.

Section 2: The additional four million, four hundred seventy-nine thousand, nine hundred and eighty-four dollars ($4,479,984) is to be funded directly from the state of Tennessee to the School Fund (#35131).

Section 3: This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
