RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-770

A resolution requesting the Mayor, the Director of the Metropolitan Department of Public Works, and the Commissioner of the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation to develop a program to coordinate interstate highway repairs and construction to improve traffic flow.

WHEREAS, for the past several years the interstate highway system in the area of the Metropolitan Government has undertaken expansion, including additional lanes and intersection improvements; and

WHEREAS, this construction work continues to create massive traffic delays within the area of the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, in order to alleviate some of the traffic congestion it should be possible to better coordinate this construction with the State of Tennessee and the Metro Department of Public Works to assure that adequate alternate routes are available before construction begins on a new project.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor, the Director of the Metro Department of Public Works, and the Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Transportation to develop a program to coordinate interstate highway repairs and construction to improve traffic flow.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor, the Interim Director of the Metro Public Works Department, and to the Commission of the State Department of Transportation.

SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
