RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-768

A resolution requesting the Solid Waste Division of the Department of Public Works to construct the additional convenience centers and to determine the feasibility of providing a free day each week for disposal at the convenience centers.


WHEREAS, only two of the planned and approved nine convenience centers have been opened; and

WHEREAS, the additional convenience centers should be sited and constructed as soon as possible for the convenience of the residents of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, to encourage use of the convenience centers it might be appropriate to provide one day each week free of charge for disposal at the centers.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Solid Waste Division of the Department of Public Works to construct the additional convenience centers and to determine the feasibility of providing a free day each week for disposal at the convenience centers.

SECTION 2. That the Interim Director of the Department of Public Works and the Solid Waste Director are further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section One hereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 3. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this resolution to the Interim Director of the Department of Public Works and to the Director of the Public Works Solid Waste Division.

SECTION 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

AMENDMENT NO. 1

TO

RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-768

Mr. President:
I move to amend Resolution No. RS2001-768 by adding the following phrase at the end of Section 1:
Further, the Metropolitan County Council requests that the Solid Waste Division of the Department of Public Works initiate a program to inform and educate the citizens of Nashville about the convenience centers, including but not limited to, the types of materials accepted, the locations of the convenience centers, the hours of operation, and any applicable fees.
