RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-766
A resolution proclaiming Friday, October 12, 2001, as Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools' Safe Schools Summit.
WHEREAS, the Board of Public Education, recognizing the positive effects of a safe learning environment on student achievement, adopted Accountability Framework Goal 7 which states, "All schools will provide a safe, respectful, orderly environment for learning"; and
WHEREAS, beginning with the first Safe Schools Summit on April 24, 1999, presentations and discussions have been conducted concerning a wide range of safety issues of interest to both students and staff in the areas of: conflict resolution, anger management, drug and alcohol prevention, eliminating intimidation and harassment, violence prevention, and making healthy choices; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, October 12, 2001, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools will be presenting its fifth Safe Schools Summit; and
WHEREAS, the Safe Schools Summits have been made possible through the Tennessee Safe Schools Grants administered by the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program of the Tennessee Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council commend the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools for their commitment to provide safe learning and teaching environments for all students and teachers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools' Safe Schools Summit.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Dr. Pedro E. Garcia, Director of Schools
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
