RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-739

A resolution recognizing Kolleen Hudgins for her civic duties.

WHEREAS, Kolleen Hudgins career began under Mayor Fulton in 1975, to develop Nashville's city-wide cleanup campaigns that included helping to develop and coordinate the Join Hands With the Badge (Nashville's first Crime Prevention Program), Mayor's Adopt-A-House (150 houses that volunteers painted and repaired for the elderly and handicapped), Mayor's Senior Citizen Program, Excellence in the School Programs, A Salute to the Vietnam Veterans, and several other Veteran recognition programs; and

WHEREAS, a downtown resident, Kolleen now works through The District Board to promote economic and community development and revitalization of lower Broadway, Second Avenue and Printers Alley; and

WHEREAS, Kolleen Hudgins, for the past 2½ decades, has used her vision and skills in several initiatives that have brought great benefits to the citizens of Davidson County including helping chair "The Progressive Party" which raises funds to improve and showcase the Central Business District, is an active member of the Nashville Downtown Partnership Residential Task Force whose goal is to help make the Downtown area a quality place to live, organized four Mayoral Inaugurations, three Fire Hall Cook-Offs, three Nashville Easter Egg Hunts and numerous other events for both adults and youth; and

WHEREAS, Kolleen's most visible career achievement has been the 17 years as Executive Producer for the July 4th Celebrations at Riverfront Park where she begins preparation in April working non-stop until the big day, bringing Metro Departments, vendors and entertainers closely together to produce this fantastic event each year culminating with a Grand Fireworks Display always seeming to top the one before; and

WHEREAS, not only has Kolleen made an impact on the city of Nashville, but over the past several years has shared her time with The Cumberland Feast Fund Raiser each year for the Martha O'Bryan Center; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Kolleen who selflessly gives of her time, talents, and energy to make downtown Nashville a great place to live and work, and that it is only fitting and proper that such a public servant be recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Kolleen Hudgins for her civic duties.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Kolleen Hudgins.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
