RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-738

A resolution recognizing Mr. Ronald Webb for his fifty years of dedicated service with the Metropolitan Public School System.

WHEREAS, this year, Mr. Ronald Webb, Principal, McMurray Middle, is celebrating fifty years of outstanding and faithful service; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ronald Webb began his brilliant career in education as a mathematics teacher and volunteer coach at Isaac Litton High School in August of 1951, before moving to the newly constructed Isaac Litton Junior High as a mathematics teacher and basketball coach, where the basketball team went on to win the 1954 city championship; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Webb later returned to Isaac Litton High School in 1957, to continue his teaching and coaching and in 1958, as assistant football coach the team participated in the Clinic Bowl and the basketball team went to the state tournament; and

WHEREAS, over the years, this exceptional educator demonstrated tremendous natural leadership abilities, and, after only 12 years as a teacher, he was selected as Stratford High Schools first assistant principal in 1963; five years later he was promoted to principal of Wright Junior High, and served in that position for four years before spending the last 29 years as principal of McMurray Middle School; and

WHEREAS, under his guidance at McMurray Middle School, he led the school through its first court order busing experience, test scores were always above the national average, the band and chorus received superior ratings in competitions not only locally but across the country; the only public middle school in Nashville to offer boys baseball and girls fast pitch softball, and two out of the last three years Academic Olympics were held the school won the city championship; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Webb is to be commended for his timeless efforts, hard work, commitment and positive impact in the improvement of educational opportunities for students and will sorely be missed as a principal, teacher and coach; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mr. Ronald Webb for his accomplishments and contributions to Metro schools during his 50 years of service in the field of education and wish him much happiness and success as he moves forward.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Ronald Webb for his fifty years of dedicated service with the Metropolitan Public School System.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Ronald Webb.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
