RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-735

A resolution recognizing Tibor Valyi-Nagy upon receiving the prestigious Eagle Scout Award.

WHEREAS, on Sunday, August 19, 2001, Tibor Valyi-Nagy, was presented with the Eagle Scout Award at the Eagle Court of Honor at the Baptist Student Center at Vanderbilt University; and

WHEREAS, the Eagle is the highest rank of recognition offered in Scouting; and

WHERAS, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout must advance through five ranks, starting with Tenderfoot, then moving to Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and then Eagle. A scout must earn 21 merit badges, and in addition to other requirements he must complete a service project that benefits a non-profit organization within the community; and

WHEREAS, Tibor Valyi-Nagy, a valued member of Boy Scout Troop 99, is a dedicated young man who has earned the respect and admiration of his fellow scouts through his active participation in the many programs sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, he has truly exhibited a commitment to the scouting principals of honesty, fairness, and service to the community and has consistently conducted himself in a manner becoming an Eagle Scout; and

WHEREAS, Tibor Valyi-Nagy, joined Troop 99 in the fall of 1995; he is a senior at Hume Fogg Magnet School, were he enjoys soccer and playing music on his guitar. For his service project he organized a book drive for the Caldwell Early Childhood School where he collected over 632 books for inner-city children who would otherwise not be afforded the opportunity to read; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Tibor Valyi-Nagy for his diligence, determination, and dedication in pursuing the highest honor awarded by the Boy Scouts of America and congratulate him on attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Tibor Valyi-Nagy upon receiving the prestigious Eagle Scout Award.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Tibor Valyi-Nagy.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
