RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-730

A resolution recognizing Cherry Lane Darken upon her retirement from service with The University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service of Davidson County.

WHEREAS, on Saturday, June 30, 2001, Cherry Lane Darken, Extension Leader of the Davidson County Agriculture Extension Service, retired after twenty-seven years of faithful service to her colleagues, as well as the youth of Davidson County, the adults involved as leaders, donors and supporters; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Darken began her career with 4-H Programs working with the Agricultural Extension Service in 1972 as an Extension Agent in Georgia before coming to Davison County in 1974, serving as a 4-H Program Assistant, then becoming an Assistant Extension Agent in 1977 before being promoted to Davidson County 4-H club coordinator in 1979, in 1990 began serving as Extension Leader of the Davidson County Agricultural Extension Service until her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Darken served as Metropolitan Nashville of Davidson County's Extension Leader responsible for coordinating the total Extension program in the county, in addition to the administrative responsibilities she conducts and the educational programs in 4-H Family and Consumer Science; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career, Mrs. Darken has conducted quality education programs and received numerous awards including the "Distinguished Service Award" from both the Tennessee Association of Extension 4-H Workers and the Tennessee Association of Home Economists; and

WHEREAS, some of her accomplishments include: being a charter life member of the Tennessee 4-H Alumni, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Nashville, and Nashville Area Agriculture Club; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Darken is to be commended for her timeless efforts and energy for the improvement of educational opportunities and experiences available to the youth in our county through the 4-H Program, and will sorely be missed not only as an Extension Agent but for her leadership in developing innovative programs; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Cherry Lane Darken, on her retirement and for her dedication to The University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service of Davidson County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Cherry Lane Darken upon her retirement from service with The University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service of Davidson County.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Extension Leader Cherry Lane Darken.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
