RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-726

A resolution recognizing Carol McCoy on winning the 2001 Kappa Delta Sorority "Order of the Pearl" Award.

WHEREAS, Carol McCoy, is one of 11 recipients of the 2001 Kappa Delta Sorority "Order of the Pearl" Award one of the Kappa Delta's most prestigious honors you can receive; and

WHEREAS, the "Order of the Pearl" is given to an alumna who has achieved prominence at the national, state or local level in areas other then specifically serve the sorority; and

WHEREAS, Carol McCoy has exemplified the ideals of the sorority as embodied in the sorority's Object; and

WHEREAS, Carol McCoy has used her vision, skills, and energy in pioneering several movements to advance women's causes which have brought great benefits throughout the Nashville area; and

WHEREAS, in addition to being the first woman elected as Chancellor to the Chancery Court for Davidson County, Carol McCoy has devoted countless hours of her time interacting, volunteering and serving as a positive role model by working for the Metro Action Commission, YMCA, United Way of Middle Tennessee, Mid-Cumberland Valley Girl Scouts and many other charitable organizations; and

WHEREAS, Carol McCoy has received numerous accolades, including being named "Woman of the Year" by the Davidson County Democratic Woman's Club, Tennessee's "Woman on the Move" by the Tennessee's Women's Political Caucus and was the 1999 winner of the Athena Award; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Carol McCoy for achieving this great honor.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Carol McCoy on winning the 2001 Kappa Delta Sorority "Order of the Pearl" Award.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Carol McCoy.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
