A resolution recognizing Mr. John M. Stone, Sr., upon his retirement from service with the Metropolitan Department of Hospitals.

WHEREAS, a native of Tennessee, John Stone, retired after thirty-two years of faithful service to his hospital employees, colleagues, patients and citizens of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stone began his career with Metropolitan General Hospital in 1968, as an administrative assistant in charge of ambulatory emergency center, then in 1975 he became administrator of Nashville Metropolitan Bordeaux Hospital, before being appointed in 1978 as Director of Hospitals were he oversaw both General and Bordeaux which included over 1,000 employees and 800 acute and chronic long-term disease/nursing home beds; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure Mr. Stone saw the Riberio and Birminghmas buildings erected, a major addition to the Emergency Room/Trauma Unit at General Hospital, the establishment of the EMS Communications System that works closely with the Metro Fire Department and EMS Service; and directed the relocation team of General Hospital to the Meharry Medical College Campus; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stone served in numerous areas of the community and earned recognition as follows: served as a board member on the Tennessee Hospital Association for 12 years and as chairman from 1982-1983, served on the AHA Regional Advisory Board, Southeastern Hospital Conference Board, Disaster Planning Council and State Public Health Council, along with numerous other achievements, accomplishments and awards; and

WHEREAS, in addition to lending his management skills to local, medical, civic and service organizations, John Stone has devoted countless hours of his time, talent and energy volunteering throughout the community; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mr. John M. Stone, Sr., for his dedication to the Metropolitan Department of Hospitals and his accomplishments during his 32 years of service and wish him much happiness on his retirement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. John M. Stone, Sr., upon his retirement from service with the Metropolitan Department of Hospitals.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. John M. Stone, Sr.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
