RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-694

A resolution appropriating $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds for streetscape improvements on Main Street, between 5th Street and 11th Street.

WHEREAS, the application for the Twenty-Sixth Year of the Community Development Block Grant Program was approved by BL 99-69; and

WHEREAS, the application for the Twenty-Sixth year included funds for the Main Street Commercial District; and

WHEREAS, streetscape improvements along the Main Street corridor between 5th and 11th Streets have been identified in past studies as critical to the resurgence of East Nashville as a viable community in the greater Nashville area; and

WHEREAS, a concept plan for streetscape improvements was developed with the input of area business and property owners; and

WHEREAS, the concept plan includes on-street parking, landscaping, sidewalk improvements, and pedestrian crosswalks; and

WHEREAS, these improvements will promote the security and increase the economic stability of the area; and

WHEREAS, the concept plan for said streetscape improvements are on file with the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That $500,000 of Community Development Block Grant funds is hereby appropriated for streetscape improvements on Main Street between 5th and 11th Streets.

Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its enactment, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
