RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-691

A resolution requesting the Mayor, the Director of Finance, the Chief of Police and the Fire Chief to determine the feasibility and cost of equipping emergency and safety vehicles with a computerized guidance system to locate destinations.

WHEREAS, it may be appropriate to equip police vehicles, fire vehicles, and ambulance vehicles with a computerized guidance system to assist in locating destinations on emergency calls; and

WHEREAS, such guidance systems are now available even for passenger vehicles; and

WHEREAS, use of such equipment may reduce response times on emergency calls.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor, the Director of Finance, the Chief of Police and the Fire Chief to determine the feasibility and cost of equipping emergency and safety vehicles with a computerized guidance system to locate destinations.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor, the Director of Finance, the Chief of Police, and the Fire Chief.

SECTION 3. That the Mayor, the Director of Finance, the Chief of Police, and the Fire Chief are further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 thereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
