RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-690
A resolution requesting representatives of the area of the Metropolitan Government, the Tennessee Congressional Delegation, the United States Congress, and the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to have introduced and adopted legislation that would provide grants, funding, or incentives to promote retail development or re-development in urban central business districts.
WHEREAS, development and re-development for retail sales in urban central business districts throughout the years have been largely dependent upon federal or state grants, tax incentives, or other state or federal assistance measures; and
WHEREAS, many of the structures in Downtown Nashville have been recipients of such incentives and have been successful; and
WHEREAS, in order to continue to have a vital downtown retail area, it is necessary that new incentives be provided for future development or re-development.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting representatives of the area of the Metropolitan Government, the Tennessee Congressional Delegation, the United States Congress, and the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to have introduced and adopted legislation that would provide grants, funding, or incentives to promote retail development or re-development in urban central business districts.
SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell, Senator Tom Frist, Senator Fred Thompson, Congressman Bob Clement, and to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.
SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
