RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-689

A resolution requesting the Mayor and the Director of Finance to consider the feasibility and implementation of a plan to sell naming rights to public buildings.

WHEREAS, numerous corporations have entered into agreements for naming rights to sports facilities to generate revenue for either the team or the facility; and

WHEREAS, colleges and universities agree to name buildings after persons that are large donors to the institution; and

WHEREAS, it may be feasible for the Metropolitan Government to develop a plan for the naming of public buildings based upon a agreement with such corporations or large donors to the Metropolitan Government that would raise additional revenue for public use.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor and the Director of Finance to identify public buildings that would qualify for selling of naming rights, and to consider the feasibility and implementation of a plan to sell naming rights to public buildings.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor and to the Director of Finance.

SECTION 3. That the Director of the Department of Codes Administration is further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 thereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
