RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-688

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education and the Metropolitan Planning Commission to cooperate in providing educational needs assessments for proposed residential developments within the area of the Metropolitan Government.

WHEREAS, new residential developments in the area of the Metropolitan Government place an increased demand on existing public schools; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Board of Public Education, in constructing or enlarging schools, should be aware of existing growth patterns and expected growth patterns; and

WHEREAS, to assure that new and existing schools do not become overcrowded, it is fitting and appropriate that the Metropolitan Board of Public Education provide staff services to the Metropolitan Planning Commission to advise on the affect of new residential developments on existing or proposed schools, and that the Planning Commission provide staff services to the Board of Public Education in the siting of new schools or increasing the size of existing schools to accommodate growth patterns.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education and the Metropolitan Planning Commission to cooperate in providing educational needs assessments for proposed residential developments within the area of the Metropolitan Government.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the members of the Metropolitan Board of Public Education and to the members of the Metropolitan Planning Commission.

SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
