RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-673
A resolution recognizing Patricia A. Goldthreate in attaining the rank of Sergeant Major.
WHEREAS, on Monday, April 23, 2001, Patricia A. Goldthreate, became the First Female Sergeant Major in the history of the Tennessee Army National Guard; and
WHEREAS, Patricia A. Goldthreate enlisted in the Tennessee Army National Guard on April 1, 1976 as a traditional soldier, then in May of 1976, she became a full time technician; in 1981, she became an active guard (AGR) while holding several positions from clerk to Senior Personnel Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Patricia A. Goldthreate has been serving the United States with distinction for more than 25 years in the Tennessee National Guard; and
WHEREAS, her service has been marked by vision, commitment, leadership and uncommon devotion to duty and to the best interests of the Tennessee Army National Guard; and
WHEREAS, presently there are approximately 10,000 enlisted soldiers in the Tennessee Army National Guard 743 being female; and
WHEREAS, the Army National Guard is America's most powerful invisible weapon. Until mobilized, Guard members are ordinary U.S. citizens, but these people, more than 350,000 of them, are committed to the safety of our country & their communities! They are trained in the same tactics, maneuvers & technical skills as soldiers in the Army and are ready at a moment's notice to step into action during times of disasters or national emergencies; and
WHEREAS, she is a member of the Church of Christ, and is as committed to her family as she is to her career; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Patricia A. Goldthreate for her distinguished service to the United States Army, her attainment of the position of Sergeant Major of the Army and her rise to the top echelon of the Tennessee Army National Guard.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Patricia A. Goldthreate in attaining the rank of Sergeant Major.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Patricia A. Goldthreate.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
