RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-670

A resolution recognizing South Sector Patrol Sergeant James "Jimbo" Allen upon receiving the 2001 Theodore Roosevelt Association Police Award for Nashville and Middle Tennessee.

WHEREAS, Sergeant James "Jimbo" Allen joined the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department on April 1, 1974; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Allen, has served more than twenty-five (25) years with the Metropolitan Police Department, and is the fourth annual recipient of the Theodore Roosevelt Association Police Award; and

WHEREAS, this distinguished award was established by the Theodore Roosevelt Association, and supported by the Dantzler Bond Ansley Foundation, and given to police officers who have displayed unselfish heroism, courage, or other acts of bravery; and

WHEREAS, this award is named for Theodore Roosevelt in recognition of his years as president of the Board of Police Commissioners of New York City (1895-97) and his life-long interest in police work and admiration for police officers; and

WHEREAS, this recognition has been conferred upon Sergeant Allen for outstanding and praise-worthy service to the Metropolitan Police Department, to which he returned to his job after surgery for a ruptured disk that resulted in further complications that accumulated with several seizures, followed by a stroke and several days in a coma on a ventilator; and

WHEREAS, upon returning to his career Sergeant Allen returned to the South Sector to light duty, gradually increasing his hours towards his goal of returning to the streets as a patrol officer; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the services of Sergeant Allen for his outstanding contributions to the Metropolitan Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing South Sector Patrol Sergeant James "Jimbo" Allen upon receiving the 2001 Theodore Roosevelt Association Police Award for Nashville and Middle Tennessee.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Sergeant James "Jimbo" Allen.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
