RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-668

A resolution recognizing Attorney Joe P. Binkley, Sr., on receiving the "Jack C. Norman, Sr. Award".

WHEREAS, Joe P. Binkley, Sr., a highly respected local criminal defense lawyer, received the Nashville Bar Association's highest honor the "Jack C. Norman, Sr., Award", and is indeed deserving of this special recognition; and

WHEREAS, in 1996, the "Jack C. Norman, Sr., Award" was initiated after the famous Nashville defense attorney, the late Mr. Jack Norman demonstrated respect for the rights of all individuals in the criminal justice system; and

WHEREAS, the "Jack C. Norman, Sr., Award" exhibits trial advocacy skills or judicial skills necessary to the pursuit of justice, demonstrates an abiding respect for the law and legal profession, maintains the highest standard of professional integrity and ethical conduct, and contributes to the improvement of the legal profession and criminal justice system; and

WHEREAS, drawing on his education and experience to benefit his fellow Tennesseans, Mr. Binkley, Sr., exemplifies the traits of integrity and commitment as a public servant in representing Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, noted for his wisdom, his expertise in the field of criminal law, and his humility, Joe Binkley is an exemplary gentleman who has distinguished himself in his profession; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mr. Binkley, Sr., for his contributions to the public image of the legal profession in Tennessee while earning the lasting respect and admiration of all who know him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Attorney Joe P. Binkley, Sr., on receiving the "Jack C. Norman, Sr. Award".

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Joe P. Binkley, Sr.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
