RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-666

A resolution recognizing Megan Birner on her volunteer work with the Saddle Up! Program.

WHEREAS, for the past six years Megan Birner rose bright and early every Saturday morning to volunteer her time, talent and energy to the Saddle Up! Program; and

WHEREAS, in November of 1989 the Saddle Up! Program was established as therapeutic horseback riding program designed for physically and mentally challenged children; and

WHEREAS, Miss Birner, at the age of 13, became the youngest volunteer allowed to be a sidewalker, which is responsible for the safety and security of a disabled child on horseback; and

WHEREAS, today Miss Birner, who has volunteered over 1,500 hours to the Saddle Up! Program, has won the "Mary Catherine Strobel Youth Volunteer Award", serving as Coordinator of Junior Volunteers overseeing our youth volunteers and also serves as Equipment Manager, keeping equipment, for both horses and children, organized and inventoried for lessons and horse shows; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Megan Birner for her dedication to the Saddle Up! Program and the children.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Megan Birner on her volunteer work with the Saddle Up! Program.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Megan Birner.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
