RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-665

A resolution memorializing the late Noah Liff.

WHEREAS, Noah Liff was born on March 17, 1929, in Delphos Ohio, spending his childhood in Indiana, before moving to Nashville in 1952, worked with Nashville Compressed Steel Co., which later merged into the Steiner-Liff Iron and Metal Company in 1954; and

WHEREAS, for four decades Mr. Liff made a career of being involved in public and community service, providing vision and leadership in business, the arts, religious activities, and charitable causes; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Liff, a strong supporter of civic organizations gave financial assistance to both the YMCA's first domestic violence shelter and the displaced homemakers program, along with the W.O. Smith School of Music, Rape and Sexual Abuse Center, Metro Arts Commission, Nashville Symphony, Gilda's Club and Nashville Opera Association; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his accomplishments in business, Mr. Liff served as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Steiner-Liff, was an acting rabbi and served in the U.S. Naval Intelligence Reserve (non-active) during the Korean Conflict; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Liff received honors and awards throughout his life including the Beta Gamma Sigma Award - from Vanderbilt's Graduate School of Business, Joe Kraft Award, Israel's 40th Anniversary Award Medal, Kiwanis Man of the Year, along with numerous other achievements; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Liff's passing leaves a hole in the lives of his family, his church, the community, and Steiner-Liff where he was not only a businessman but a philanthropist; and

WHEREAS, not only was Mr. Liff and his wife avid collectors of contemporary art, their collection has been loaned to museums around the world; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council express their condolences to the family and friends of Noah Liff upon the occasion of his passing.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as memorializing the late Noah Liff.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of Noah Liff.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
